Foam concrete used for void filling

2019-11-04 15:14:51

Foam concrete is a very flowing, lightweight, porous concrete filling material that is made by mixing cement slurry (slurry or mortar) with preformed foam manufactured separately. The density of foam concrete depends on the ratio of foam to slurry, and foam concrete of density between 600-800 kg/m³ is used for void filling. sand, fly ash (pfa), lytag fine powder or limestone dust can be used to further enhance the performance of foamed concrete. Foam Concrete Co., Ltd. is ISO 9001 certified in the manufacture, supply and installation of foam concrete and the preparation of foam concrete mixtures that meet customer requirements.

Foam concrete for void filling
Foam concrete machine and foam concrete is widely used for void filling, such as in landscaping (above/underground construction), filling voids behind archways and refurbishing damaged sewerage systems, as well as producing masonry units. Foam concrete is extremely flowable and easily pumped; it completely fills even the tiniest voids. Rather than spending time and money for excavation and removal of underground structures, foam concrete can provide a simpler more economical solution for abandonment of sewers, tunnels, and underground tanks, and naturally occurring voids.

Foam concrete used for void filling

Why do we use foam concrete for void filling?
1. Foam concrete for void filling reduced construction costs
In some cases, the placement of filling materials and subsequent mechanical compaction can be difficult or dangerous, sometimes with limited job opportunities or unstable working conditions. Foam concrete is easy to install, quick to install, easy to carry out long distance pumping at relatively low pressure. Foam concrete is an excellent void filler. Natural self-leveling material will reach and fill the smallest gaps, seams and cavities. the mobile batching plant of foam concrete co., ltd. can produce 100 cubic meters of light foam concrete with density of 400kg/m3 only once delivered by bulk powder tank truck. This means that the site staff and residents of the surrounding area less interference, security is higher. large capacity, fast-installed equipment makes foam concrete void filler an economically viable solution, especially in large volume applications, and the durability and non-settlement characteristics of foam concrete minimize future maintenance responsibilities. the minimum lateral load means that the construction cost of earthwork structures is reduced, and the use of lightweight foam concrete when building on marginal ground reduces the demand for pile foundations.

2. Lightweight Foundations

When the density of light foundation is as low as 300kg/m3, foam concrete can hardly apply vertical stress to the surrounding lower structure. This is particularly important in areas sensitive to settlement. In barren soil excavation, foam concrete can form 100% stable light foundation, and can be designed by balance principle: by replacing the weight of excavated soil with similar (or lower) foam concrete foundation and building total weight, the structure will be stable and can resist any subsequent movement of sublayer.

3. Concrete anti-freezing/ anti-melting and fire-proof

The foam concrete has good freeze-thaw resistance. This is due primarily to the low water absorption properties of the foam concrete, whereby the water absorption of the capillary water in the pores accessible to the material has never reached the critical saturation point in which the damage may occur. In contrast to some of the synthetic polystyrene foams used in the construction, the hardened foam concrete is not broken due to the presence of hydrocarbons, bacteria or fungi. The foam concrete is insect-proof, rat-proof and fire-proof.
4. Energy absorption
Due to the dense pore structure of the foam concrete, when the material is compressed during the impact, the resistance of the foam concrete is increased, and the absorption kinetic energy-is particularly suitable for the design of an aircraft lightning arrester system such as an airport or a road.
5. The benefits of foam concrete
The foam concrete has many unique advantages over other forms of concrete. The benefits of foam concrete include: The load on the section of the foam concrete will not be deflected into the adjacent ground/ structure when subjected to an attack by a hydrocarbon, a bacterium or a fungus, high-flow material suitable for long-distance pumping self-leveling, No need for vibration or compaction high freeze/ thaw cycle failure Fast and no settlement construction good thermal insulation performance good energy absorption performance Insect-proof and anti-mouse excellent fire resistance no harm to the environment foam concrete application the foam concrete can be widely used for filling, Thermal insulation and light foundation.
6. The application of foamed concrete includes
Secure old mines, shafts, tunnels and other underground spaces. Fill in excess sewers, fuel tanks for pipes, culverts and subways. Rodents excluded from the train station platform And the arch-shaped arch is filled under the bridge and the viaduct. Roof leveling and floor insulation soil stabilization/ replacement. Backfilling of the port retaining wall. Airport aircraft lightning arrester bed. The filling of the annular duct. tunnel lining backfill road foundation.

foamed concrete for large void fill

Also Foamed concrete for large void fill:

According to the site conditions and location, the water supply can reach 1000 cubic meters per day. The simplicity of site setting provides an economical and efficient solution to complete a large number of pouring in the best time. The typical density ranges from 500 Kg/m3 to 1000 Kg/m3.

Example of foamed concrete for large void fill:

1. Infill the tanks
It was required to infill a number of disused fuel tanks in a depot of waste and recycling contractor in south London. Around 500 cubic meter of foam concrete with a cast density of 550kg/m3 at a 28 day compressive strength of 2N/mm2 was used to infill the tanks.

2. Culvert fill

A project in South Dakota USA was carried out in 2000 where it had become necessary to replace an existing bridge structure with a super span steel plate bridge culvert to be back filled with soil. Original granular backfill has caused settlement to the footings and hence distortion of the structure. It was decided to remove the original fill and replace with lightweight 500-kgs/m3 density foam concrete.

3. Subway infill

These pictures show a project in Milton Keynes, UK, where a network of six pedestrian subways was required to be in filled with lightweight foam concrete. The mix specified for this contract was an 800 kg/m3 density, 8 N/mm2 compressive strength at 28 days.

4. Tunnel infill

The arched tunnel-built in the 19th century as part of a cement works - measured 5.0 meters high and 4.5 meters wide. The foam concrete was required to be pumped some 300 meters away. The project was completed over seven days using foam concrete with a 350 - 400 kgs/m3 cast density and a 28 day compressive strength of 0.5 N/mm2.
