The advantages of foam concrete in floor heating


According to the development trend, foam concrete will undoubtedly replace polystyrene foam panels in floor heating insulation. Because foamed concrete has the following significant advantages compared to polystyrene foam:

1.High heat resistance. The fatal weakness of Styrofoam is that the heat-resistant temperature is low, and it starts to decompose at 74°C. When the temperature continues to increase, it will melt and shrink. While the temperature of the floor heating water pipe is not constant, sometimes exceeding 74°C.
This will cause the polystyrene foam to decompose thermally and cause insulation failure. The foamed concrete is an inorganic material with a heat resistance of more than 500°C. It does not have thermal decomposition, so it has a longer service life and does not cause insulation failure.

2.Green, non-toxic and harmless. Foamed concrete does not contain any toxic components. Blowing agents and various admixtures have no volatile harmful substances and are conducive to the indoor environment. Styrofoam releases styrene toxic gases due to thermal decomposition. Therefore, using foamed concrete is more environmentally friendly than using polystyrene foam.

3.Strong bearing capacity. The compressive strength of polystyrene foam board is only 0.02~0.03MPa, which is easy to compress and deform, causing cracking or even collapse of the ground. The foam concrete compressive strength is 0.4 ~ 15MPa, better pressure resistance.

4. Low cost. The density of not less than 20kg/m³ flame-retardant polystyrene foam sheet (XPS) is about USD 75/m³, plus a mortar leveling layer, so the overall cost is about USD 133/m³. The price of foamed concrete with a density of no more than 500kg/m³ is generally not more than USD 66/m³, which has a significant economic advantage.

5. High construction speed. Foam concrete is not leveled prior to construction, pouring can be done. Styrofoam slabs need to be laid one by one, and mortar must be leveled before paving. Therefore, the construction speed is much slower than foam concrete.

6, No seams, the heat loss caused by the seams can be reduced. Because the polystyrene foam panels are laid out one by one, there are many seams and it is easy to form cold bridges or thermal bridges.
